In the series of Hybrid necklaces made as a complement to her Vanitas exhibition at the National Museum Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum, Marina Núñez explores a relationship of belonging, continuity and empathy between the human and nature. Some branches with leaves that turn out to be eyes, the veins of a hand from which bay leaves grow, and an eye whose eyelashes are transformed into lianas, illustrate this miscegenation of people and landscapes.

The pendants have been made of two metals, stainless steel and brass.

Stainless steel is corrosion resistant, an easy-care, beautiful, and durable silver metal.

Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc. The brass surface tarnishes over time due to oxidation. The shades of aged brass can be even more beautiful than the original light gold color, and in any case that patina can always be removed by simple cleaning.

The cork (cork oak) cords are a nod to that plant hybridization.
