The Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum celebrates its 25th anniversary with Museomaquia, a graphic novel by Santiago García (National Comics Award for Las Meninas, Astiberri, 2014) and David Sánchez (winner of the Barcelona exhibition's most promising author award for Tú me has matado, Astiberri, 2010).
The young Venetian knight wakes up, his sleep interrupted by the flight of a bee around a pomegranate. The time has come to resume the mission. Accompanied by his squire, he sets out on a journey through country and seascapes, to the distant metropolis. Along the way they will meet angels, beasts, nymphs and all kinds of creatures. They are the inhabitants of the magical land of art. There is a war, but it is not fought between nations, but between periods and artistic styles where Flemish primitives, Italian Renaissance artists, Venetians, expressionists, romantics and abstract artists meet: Museomaquia is a mystical odyssey through the mysterious labyrinth of painting. The imagination of artists from the Middle Ages to the contemporary age has offered us disparate, contradictory and enigmatic settings and characters; From Van Eyck to Lichtenstein, from Dürer to Dalí, from Caravaggio to Hopper, they have all made us see the world in a different way, and they are all found in these pages.
