Edited on the occasion of the 25th Anniversary of the Museum. In 1746, Doña Leonor Pío de Saboya, widowed Duchess of Atri, bought the property on the corner of Carrera de San Jerónimo and Paseo del Prado and ordered the construction of a new palace, later known as the Villahermosa Palace and which is now the headquarters of the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum. This book tells the interesting story of the Villahermosa Palace from the mid-18th century until its transformation into a Museum in 1992.
Once negotiations had begun for the permanent installation of the Thyssen-Bornemisza Collection in Madrid, between 1989 and 1992 the architect Rafael Moneo carried out the construction work for the new museum, attempting to recover the palatial condition that the old building once had. Today it is this same architect who has signed this volume together with the architect José Manuel Barbeito.
