The Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza presents a monographic exhibition on Victor Vasarely (Pécs, 1906 - Paris, 1997), one of the main representatives of Op Art. Organised with funds from the Vasarely Museum in Budapest, the Victor Vasarely Museum in Pécs and the Vasarely Foundation in Aix-en-Provence, as well as important loans from private collections, Vasarely: The Birth of Op Art aims to offer a global vision of the life and work of the Hungarian painter, who produced the best of his work in France. This publication represents the main creative phases of his career to show a chronological journey of his artistic evolution that allows us to appreciate Vasarely's fundamental role in the development of post-war geometric abstraction and to learn, through his principles and theoretical reflections, about the experiments he carried out to integrate art into society.
Texts by: Márton Orosz, Curator of the exhibition and Director of the Vasarely Múzeum Budapest and Györgyi Imre, Chief Conservator of the Vasarely Múzeum Budapest.
